She graduated from Nevada High School in 1953, and moved to west with her family where she settled in Redmond and took a job as a waitress.
Shirley Jean met Waldon Simmons of Powell Butte shortly after moving to Redmond and they dated, then married at the Powell Butte Christian Church on August 21, 1955, and soon after started a family. Shirley Jean was a devoted daughter, sister, wife and mother and loved her family and being a homemaker.
Over the years Shirley Jean worked as a waitress at local restaurants including the Char Broiler, The Frontier Cafe and the Redmond Auction Yard. Shirley worked in the kitchen for Redmond School District, the Redmond Air Center and as a phone operator and in collections for United Telephone Systems. After retirement Shirley also helped manage Remington Arms Mobile Home Park. She was never afraid to work hard and was a dedicated employee.
