Free summer lunches
The Redmond School District, in conjunction with the Summer Food Service Program, serves free lunch to all children 18 and younger. Summer lunches are served Monday through Friday, through July 31 at the following locations: Evergreen Elementary, 11:45 a.m. to noon; Sam Johnson Park, 11:45 a.m. to noon; Terrebonne Community School, 11:30-11:45 a.m.
No registration is required and children are encouraged to come any or all days. Information: 541-923-5437.

Safe driving for seniors
AARP is offering a safe driving class for senior citizens Aug. 10-11 and Sept. 14-15 at the Redmond Senior Center. The class focuses on defensive driving in an ever-changing driving environment. Classes take place on two consecutive four-hour days and cost $14. Call 541-317-0610 to sign up.

Leadership class sign-ups

Leadership Redmond is accepting applications for it 2009-2010 class. The leadership program is sponsored by the Redmond Executives Association and the Redmond Chamber of Commerce and dedicated to training tomorrow’s leaders by giving them the background, tools and contacts needed. Tuition is $600 and a limited number of scholarships are available. Call 541-923-5191 for more information.

Fossil bed special events
John Day Fossil Beds National Monument has several special events coming up: July 25 a ranger-guided one-mile hike into the Blue Basin fossil beds and a hands-on workshop on replicating fossils will be held at Thomas Condon Visitor Center will be offered; July 26 a two-hour ranger-led hike into the scenic Goose Rock area will be featured. Friends Language Exchange

R.I.C.E. (Redmond Inter-Cultural Exchange) hosts free Spanish conversation practice and lessons are held each Saturday, 9:30-11:30 a.m., at the COCC Redmond campus, Building 3. A French conversation group also meets Saturdays, 1:30-3:30 p.m., at the same location. Child abuse discussions
Confronting Child Sexual Abuse: A Local Perspective will be discussed at the next Talk of the Town. Open to the public, the discussion taping will be held July 29 at the East Bend Campus – Deschutes Children Foundation, 2125 N.E. Dagget Lane, Bend.
