Tree pickup
Boy Scout troops from the Redmond area will be doing the last Christmas tree pickup of the year Jan. 9, in Redmond, Terrebonne and Eagle Crest. Trees will be recycled so they should be free of any decoration and visible at the curb by 9 a.m. A tax-deducible donation of $5 will be appreciated, with checks preferred and made out to “Boy Scouts of America.” Attach checks wrapped in plastic firmly to tree. Congleton sculpture on display

A sculpture by Central Oregon artist Greg Congleton is on display in the Old Mill District in Bend through March. The steel piece titled “Liberty Belle” features the Statue of Liberty made from recycled parts. It is located at the north end of Powerhouse Drive. The piece is comprised of a variety of recycled metal items. For example, an old wood burning stove makes up the base of the sculpture, a bicycle sprocket is used in the torch, and scissors and sheep shears are used in the crown. Other recycled items used in the sculpture include a muffler, horse shoes, drills, auger, spoons and forks, aerator tines, a rake, wagon tire and lever door handles. Congleton is a Central Oregon native.

Humane society club party

The Humane Society of Redmond will host a dance Jan. 23, 8 p.m. to midnight at its Event Center, 1355 N.E. Hemlock Ave. Music will be provided by a D.J. There will be dance contests and prizes. Soft drinks and snacks will be available for purchase. Tickets are $10 at the door. All proceeds benefit the Humane Society of Redmond. Information: 541-923-9882.

Library offers programs for teens
The Redmond Public Library will offer several free programs for teens ages 12-17:
Movie Marathon featuring Star Trek and Iron Man, Jan. 7, 3:15- 8 p.m.
Board Game Day, Jan. 14, 3:15-4:45 p.m. Checkers, Monopoly, Apples to Apples and more. Kids are invited to bring their own games.
Game Day, third Thursday of each month, 3:15-4:45 p.m. Play Wii, Guitar Hero, Rock Band and more. Kids can bring their own video games if rated E or T.
Shrinky Dink Crafts, Jan. 28, 3:15-4:45 p.m. Choose your design, trace it, cut it and bake it. Kids can make key chains, jewelry or phone charms.

Women’s club plans information session
The General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Central Oregon will hold an informational meeting Jan. 14, 7 p.m., in the Community Room at Ray’s Food Place in Redmond. GFWC is a nonprofit international women’s volunteer service organization. Restaurant to aid softball team

Arbor Day Foundation offers trees
Oregon residents who join the Arbor Day Foundation in January will receive 10 free flowering trees. The free trees are part of the nonprofit Foundation’s Trees for America campaign. Trees will be shipped postpaid at the right time for planting between Feb. 1 and May 31 with planting instructions. The 6- to 12-inch tall trees are guaranteed to grow or they will be replaced free of charge. Members also receive a subscription to the Foundation’s bimonthly publication, Arbor Day, and The Tree Book, which includes information about tree planting and care. COCC seeks artists for Campus Center
Central Oregon Community College is asking artists in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Northern California to submit original works for interior art for installation in the college’s Campus Center. Deadline for submissions is May 3.
The call is for an interior wall sculpture and interior fiber art piece. Two pieces will be selected and installed on large interior walls in the new contemporary Campus Center building. Submissions will be a maximum of two digital images of completed work or conceptual images of a design. Installation is scheduled for September.
