a place where dreams come true...

12-year-old Una Wagner auditions for "Peter Pan."

One big dream came true for 12-year-old Gatlin Cyrus last Saturday, just not exactly the one he was aiming for.
“Come with me,” Peter Pan entices the Darling children, “where dreams are born, and time is never planned.” Cyrus attended a casting call March 6 for the upcoming Redmond High School production of the beloved musical “Peter Pan.”
“I’ll be really excited if I get cast as Peter because I get to fly,” said Cyrus after his audition. As it happened, he was cast as John, one of the Darling children – and John flies.
Previously Cyrus appeared in the RHS production of “Wizard of Oz,” in the role of the Coroner in Munchkinland. He loves to act and sing and performs regularly with the Central Oregon Children’s Choir.
There was no shortage of talent to cast the production’s 31 roles, according to director Phil Neely, theater arts teacher at RHS.
“The middle school crop is really talented,” he said after the auditions, and indeed, some mighty big voices came out of some pretty little bodies during the three hours of auditions for elementary and middle school actors.
Luckily for everyone, “Peter Pan” is one theatrical production that traditionally uses loose guidelines in casting: boys play girls, girls play boys, adults play children and humans play dogs.
Peter Pan will be played by Billy Brant, a 7th-grader at Obsidian Middle School. Wendy is Danielle Williams, an RHS student and Captain Hook/Mr. Darling will be played by Daniel Bradley, a junior at Redmond Proficiency Academy.
The May production will use theatrical “flying” technology with the help of a professional company, Flying by Foy.
