Help keep the fireworks coming
Redmond’s annual Fourth of July fireworks show at the Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center is without a sponsor. Community support is greatly needed to keep this patriotic tradition alive. Approximately $7,000 needs to be raised to host this year’s fireworks show. With Redmond’s population of 25,445, this amounts to 28 cents per person.
Donations in any amount can be dropped off at the Redmond Chamber of Commerce & CVB, Redmond City Hall, between now and June 1 . Please make checks payable to: Redmond Chamber of Commerce/Fireworks.

Letter carriers planning food drive
The National Association of Letter Carriers will hold its 18th Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive on May 8. This week, letter carriers will deliver cards announcing the food drive along with a yellow, plastic food-drive bag. To donate, fill the bag with nutritious, nonperishable food such as tuna fish, peanut butter, soups, stews, chili, canned fruits, vegetables, beans, rice and pasta. Letter carriers will pick up non perishable food donations along their routes on May 8. Place donations beside the mailbox before scheduled delivery. Food can also be dropped off at most post offices in the area.

Practice your Spanish or Italian
R.I.C.E. (Redmond Inter-Cultural Exchange) hosts Spanish conversation groups Saturdays, 9:30-11:30 a.m., at Green Plow Coffee Roasters, 436 S.W. Sixth St. An Italian conversation group meets Wednesdays, 6:30-8:30 p.m., at Dudley’s Bookshop Café, 135 N.W. Minnesota Ave., Bend. The groups are free. Camp Fire USA to host summer camps
Camp Fire USA Central Oregon will be hosting camps for kids throughout the summer. Camp programs include a five-day camp at Tumalo State Park, June 28 through July 2; Summerkids daily camp, June 21 through Sept. 3 at Summit Park; and Outdoor Adventure Camp, a five-day camp designed for middle- and high-school youth. Volunteer opportunities are available for counselors-in-training and adult counselors. Camp activities are related to outdoor skills, safety, camp songs and tradition, teambuilding and leadership. Marble shootout at the Des Chutes museum
The Des Chutes Historical Museum will host a Summer Shootout Marble Tournament on June 19. The event begins at 10 a.m. and features tournament play, marble free play throughout the day, lawn games, picnic fare, and other fun activities. Tournament play is for adults and children 5 to 12 partnered in teams of two. Registration opens May 15. The cost is $20 per team. All proceeds benefit the museum. Recycle yard waste and debris for free

FireFree encourages residents to get prepared for the upcoming wildfire season by cleaning up their yards and creating defensible spaces around their homes. Residents can recycle their yard waste and debris for free at the Negus Transfer Station in Redmond May 15-16. Information: www.firefree.org.
