Library adds storytimes
Working parents and others now have the opportunity to attend evening and weekend story times with their c hildren at the Redmond library.
Pajama Story Time is the first Tuesday of eac h month at 6:45 p.m.
“Children are invited to wear their pajamas and bring a stuffed animal with them. I wear jammies, too,” said Community Librarian Julie Bowers.
Saturday Stories are the third Saturday of eac h month at 10:15 a.m. This time is designed for three- to five-year-olds, but younger and older c hildren are also welc ome.
The Redmond library offers two weekly sessions of Presc hool Parade for three- to five-year-olds at 10:15 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. Toddlin’ Tales at 10:15 a.m. on Thursdays features stories, songs and movement rhymes for c hildren 18-36 months. For the youngest c hildren, birth through 18 months, Baby Steps features gentle stories and songs at 11:00 a.m. on Thursdays.
Nature of Words adds events
In response to attendee feedbac k, The Nature of Words (NOW ) 2011 literary festival, whic h begins Nov. 2, offers a variety of lec tures and a panel disc ussion, in addition to workshops, giving partic ipants more ways to experienc e the guest authors. In addition, this year’s slate of authors inc ludes young perspec tives, both c hronologic ally and philosophic ally, and several with inspirational messages. Teens teac h seniors tec hnology
Central Oregon Counc il On Aging (COCOA) will pair c omputer savvy teenagers from the leadership c lass at Redmond High Sc hool and teen volunteers from the Redmond library with interested seniors with some c omputer knowledge to learn how to use the soc ial network of Fac ebook and their c ell phones and digital c ameras. Classes will be an hour and a half sessions on Oc t. 19 and Nov. 2 beginning at 2:30 p.m. at the Redmond library, 827 S.W. Desc hutes Ave.
“This is a wonderful intergenerational opportunity,” said Pamela Norr, from Central Oregon Counc il On Aging, in a news release. “I hear seniors saying they miss interac ting with their grandkids, and emails are sometimes short and use many ic ons and soc ial media lingo. Connec ting on Fac ebook and gaining c omfort around how teenagers c ommunic ate elec tronic ally – while still respec ting the elders ability and interests – is our goal.”

Choral performanc e highlights masters
On Oc t. 21 and 22 at 7:30 p.m., at First Presbyterian Churc h of Bend, the 40-voic e Central Oregon Mastersingers direc ted by Clyde Thompson will present two beloved Americ an c horal masterworks: “Chic hester Psalms” by Leonard Bernstein and “Lux Aeterna” by Morten Lauridsen.
Other c horal gems old and new by suc h c omposers as Vaughan-Williams, Tsc hesnokoff, Biebl and Moses Hogan will round out this program that will put the beauty of c horal singing on full display.
