Redmond Area Park and Rec reation Distric t offers Taekwon-Do at the RAPRD Ac tivity Center, providing an opportunity for students to train in a c omplete martial arts system.
Students learn respec t, Korean c ulture, disc ipline, fitness, and self-defense. Through the five tenets – c ourtesy, integrity, perseveranc e, self-c ontrol and indomitable spirit – students find that what they learn in c lass c an be translated and prac tic ed in their everyday lives.

Cookbook to help the hungry
Bend’s Community Center (BCC ) rec ently launc hed a new projec t to raise funds for its Feed the Hungry program. Seeking to c reate a fundraising opportunity c entered on food and c ommunity, in keeping with its mission, BCC is publishing “Sage in the Kitc hen,” a c ookbook featuring the area’s greatest c hefs. The c ookbook will be produc ed in full c olor with professional photography and presentation. “Sage in the Kitc hen” will be sold throughout Central Oregon, and nationally via online avenues.
Preorders for “Sage in the Kitc hen” are now being ac c epted online at www.bendsc ommunityc enter.org/sage. Copies of “Sage in the Kitc hen” will be delivered the first half of Dec ember – just in time for holiday giving. The preorder pric e is $18.95 per c opy, a savings of almost 20 perc ent of the retail c over pric e. “We wanted to design a new way to bring in the funds we need to feed the hungry,” said Taffy Gleason, exec utive direc tor of Bend’s Community Center, in a news release. “It was important to us to c reate a projec t that would bring our c ommunity together around food. Food is a key part of our mission and a basic human need, but eating food is also a sourc e of pleasure, how we c elebrate milestones and strengthen important relationships. It just made sense to move in this direc tion, and we are thrilled to work with the very best partners to make this happen.”
The Feed the Hungry program c urrently provides over 1,200 meals every week to the hungry and homeless and BCC provides an additional 100 meals daily to low-inc ome senior c itizens, five days a week.
